Summary Reports of Civil Society Engagements with the High-level Group on Sustainable Energy for All
The UN Secretary-General launched the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative in September 2011 and established a High-level Group on Sustainable Energy for All to develop an Action Agenda. The High-level Group was comprised of 35 Principal Members, supported by a 12-person Technical Group.
Additionally, the iniatitve will design processes for shared learning and accountability and to catalyze action by all stakeholders toward the achievement of three interlinked objectives by 2030:
• Ensuring universal access to modern energy services.
• Doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency.
• Doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
In cooperation with the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) and the United Nations Foundation (UNF), UN-NGLS facilitated civil society engagement with the Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All Initiative from February to June 2012, with the aim of strengthening civil society engagement in the Initiative. UN-NGLS supported the efforts of UNF and the EOSG; conducted mapping and outreach to civil society on the SEFA Initiative; organized a teleconference-based civil society consultation on the Initiative through a series of calls in April; and provided civil society the opportunity to share their comments through an online platform that UN-NGLS created.
